It's Almost Normal Looking Mansion on Phoenix Way, Saturday Morning

Derek was still laying on the couch, on his stomach thank you, watching bad television this morning. His back was almost at 100%, but for now he was going to enjoy the wonder of having a place to recuperate that wasn't abandoned or looking like someone might build a meth lab there any moment now.

It was almost novel!

Now he just had to avoid Stiles until he could move normally again.

"Then you don't have to worry about me dying. I don't know if you're in danger of that or not," Derek shot back, being perfectly reasonable for a crazy person.

Stiles looked like he wanted to punch Derek right where Peter had clawed him. "Still not the point! God, Derek, you're such a jackass. You do realize that I only keep you up to date on what I'm doing because I know you care, right? It's not like you can protect me while I'm out there."

"I could. If you'd stop being an idiot."

"How am I being an idiot?" Well asking that question was pretty idiotic, Stiles.

"Running into dangerous situations? Ringing any bells?"

"There's no avoiding that!" He was a Stilinski, that's what they did.

"Yes there is!" Derek replied, pushing himself up with a wince. "You're a kid, Stiles."

"Don't get up, dumbass," Stiles said, moving closer like he was in any way capable of helping if Derek hurt himself. "I'm not having this fight with you again, we both know I'm not going to stop trying to help."

Derek sighed, hands on his knees to support himself. See what happens when someone doesn't sex the crippling self worth issues out of him?

"You're going to get yourself killed." And that was more important to Derek than his own safety. Because no one who managed to get into his little circle of friends was allowed to die. Not unless you want to see him have a breakdown.

"Maybe," he acknowledged with a nod. "Hasn't happened yet. Don't act like you're not in the same situation."

Complete with one Stiles who cared more about Derek's safety than his own. They needed to be in therapy, seriously.

"It's not the same thing." Because you were young and not completely screwed up inside, Stiles.

"I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same thing," Stiles said, sitting down on the couch. "And I swear Derek, if you bring my age into it I'm going to punch you."

"You're in high school. You have your whole life ahead of you, Stiles." This was the 'you can do better' talk, yes. It was also the 'listing the reasons not to get attached more than he already was' to himself speech. "If you keep doing this, you're going to end up broken or worse."

And, you know, hate werewolves. Specifically Derek.

"Dude you are like twenty-one, your life isn't over yet either," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. "I live here and in Beacon Hills. If I wanted to avoid all this--which I don't--I would have to find a new school and convince my dad to be sheriff of some other town and I don't think he'd agree to that."

Stop ruining his attempts to push you away, Stiles.

"Doesn't mean you should run into it."

"I'm not," he said. "I only do it when I have to."

He just thought he had to all the time.

"You know this is supposed to be about you telling me when you go home, I have no idea how we got onto you badgering me into joining a convent or something."

"How is wanting you not to die a convent?"

[robinonadderall]

"I don't know, I was trying to think of a place werewolves wouldn't attack." Don't question his logic, Derek.

Derek rolled his eyes. "You're an idiot."

"Whatever, you love it," Stiles said, getting himself more comfortable against the couch. "We really need to stop having this argument all the time."

Ha, never going to happen so long they both kept insisting on playing the hero.

Derek sighed, but didn't disagree with anything. "What happened with your friends?"

"They're fine. Ethan thanked Scott in his own jerky alpha way even though it was me that saved his ass," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. "Lydia figured out what made the werewolves go berserk."

Give him a moment while he fanboyed her genius.

"The darach put wolfsbane in Coach's whistle. Every time he used it on the bus the werewolves were breathing it in."

Derek just made a noise at the complaint. "He doesn't consider you his equal."

It was a werewolf thing. You wouldn't understand.

"Then it's someone who knows werewolves. Had to be the right blend of wolfsbane for that."

"Lydia says that back in the day people used sacrifices like this to prepare for war," Stiles said. "I don't think it's a coincidence this stuff started happening at the same time a new pack rolled into town. If the darach hates werewolves enough to start a war against them then, yeah, he'd know all about wolfsbane."
