Like Derek was really going to just trust Scott at his word that he would stay away from the Argent girl. And like he really wanted to spend more time in the burned out hull of his childhood home more than strictly necessary right now. Or go to work at the bar and deal with Taylor Swift some more.

That would be why he had slipped in through the open window in Scott's room--seriously, who leaves a window open when they know a murderous werewolf is out there?--to wait for him. Sitting in a chair. In the dark

Training Scott to be more aware of his surroundings if they wanted to catch the Alpha would have been easier had he been able to spend more than a day or two at a time working on it. But the kid apparently still needed to go to school and kidnapping was right out of the question.

Despite so much time passing in Fandom ~~and the writer's life goin' cray-cray~~ barely a week had passed in Beacon Hills. Because that made complete and total sense. Really.

Derek pulled the car into the long term care facility that had been chosen after the fire. Two kids without any other family to go to couldn't really give the sort of help that had been needed, after all. Laura had said this was a good place.

Derek had peeled his leather jacket off with some difficulty as only one arm was functioning properly. He was almost certain that this Stiles wouldn't dare try to take the jacket so he let it fall wherever it did. He was most certainly not relaxing slightly because he was in more familiar surroundings with a more familiar person. Not at all. Except for how he was.

Sending Jack back to the safety of Fandom might have been a good choice for preventing another person in his life from dying, but it was playing hell on his own ability to survive. Because he was quite possibly too dumb to function on his own.

The police were keeping an eye on his old house. One of the many problems that stemmed from being arrested. Yet another reason to hate one Stiles Stiliniski. He couldn't help but wonder, though, if they thought he had something to do with the attack on the bus driver at the school.

There were police at the house when he got back that morning. The smell of gun oil and the sound of the radio should have warned him off, but time in Fandom had no doubt dulled the normal instinct to run from the law. So, of course he was promptly questioned about the body in the backyard--Stiles was a dead man again--and handcuffed for more intensive questioning as they looked around the house and yard.

There was also nothing weird about hanging out at the burned out hull of his house. Because, really, where else would you go in this town? Especially with the Argents running around the town.

After a very normal and completely non-creepy time watching McCall at Lacrosse practice, Derek needed to go get the kid back in line. Because the amount of control he'd seen in Stiles' version of the kid (as little as it was) didn't seem to be in this one. He'd nearly shifted and murdered a teenager or two.
