Stark was still deep in his feelings about the weekend. Movie and snacks would be a good distraction! He hoped.

“I hope everyone is all right after the weekend,” he said. “I’m not certain if you had visitors or not but…if you did, I can listen if you want to talk. But for right now we’re not going to talk. Right now we’re going to watch a movie and eat some snacks. This movie is very popular on this island. It’s a heist movie and it’s fun. I think you’ll like it. You may even be familiar with it.”

Yes. Of course it was that movie.

“There’s a heist, there’s sparkly jewelry, there’s crimes, there’s lovely outfits on beautiful people…something for everyone. And snacks, of course. Popcorn, always. And there’s a diner scene in the movie where they eat at a diner and so I have some pierogies and latkes similar to that.” Because a potato never hurt him and potatoes were delicious.

“So, let’s watch.”

Class had been told to meet in the Danger Shop again, where they'd find Constantine leaning against a wall, waiting.

"Well, some of you had a right weird weekend," John said as everyone arrived. "And some others of you are probably feeling A Way that you did not get the weird weekend."

"So we're going to put Depression off until next week." He clicked the remote, and rooms appeared before them, doors labeled things like 'angel rage room' or 'singing bowl sound meditation.'

"Pick your poison. Or leave. You need something in particular, you ask, yeah? But today, any grief you have is your own."

Once again, there was only one thing happening yesterday and that things was Shenanigans. In this case, some kind of slip and slide soccer.

*outraged chittering*

If you wanted me to call it that, then maybe that's what you should've written in the notes you gave me. In any case the voluntolds got given their uniforms, which Rey and Flint weren't to worried about until they saw the other team had the same colour. Has anyone asked if Anakin is okay?

Then they played slippery, slippery soccer, and again, I'm not the one who wrote these notes, Leroy, which mainly involved trying not to fall over.

Wooooow did Liliana not want to talk about anything Dominaria-related today. But with five more rifts and only three more classes, what she wanted unfortunately had to take a back seat.

With apologies to Kitty Pryde )

"Urza was furious, as his plans for Zhalfir literally vanished before his eyes. Nor was Teferi done. He then traveled to Shiv, where Jhoira, his old friend and first love, had stayed for centuries, working on a project for Urza. Teferi turned the project over, and then removed the rest of Shiv from the time stream to save them from the horrendous attacks of the Phyrexians and depriving Urza of yet more resources and allies in the war. And, of course, creating yet more rifts. The Phasing of Zhalfir wrenched open the rift over Jamuraa that had been primed when he'd accidentally phased out the Chaza Isles. Phasing Shiv gouged a hole deep in the surface of Jamuraa and opened yet another rift there. Three hundred years later, during the Great Mending, Shiv was returned to Dominaria. Zhalfir remains phased out, its people lost."

They got to Limbo City sometime in the afternoon the next day. There’d been no more demonic interruptions, no creepy motels or evil executives. Just a train and then a road, and the doors of Devil May Cry which remained the sturdiest, least collapsible parts of the structure. (Thanks, Verg, for the wake-up call on that one.)

“So you can crash here until we’re sure nothing fucked-up is going on at the orphanage that got all these demons on your tail,” Dante said. “And we’ve sniffed out whoever the fuck sold you out to that rich asshole who used you as a shield.”

The little ten-year-old menace had been grateful yesterday. She looked less so now, wrinkling her nose as she kicked aside a couple of empty pizza boxes. “You still live like a slob,” she said. “How? I didn’t know anyone could make this much of a mess!”

Dante rolled his eyes as he padded to the couch, dropping his weary ass down on the ravaged old cushions. “I mean, you can also go back to the orphanage if you want…”

We'll have to work on it. )

Steven raced into the Museum. He hadn't meant to be late. But Raphael had been curled up on his lap while Steven had been eating breakfast. Everyone knew you couldn't move a cat when it was comfortable. That was practically against the law.

Luckily Steven wasn't too late. Only a few minutes.

He gave his apologies to Blathers all the same, then settled down to work.

There was something off about the receptionist at the hotel. It wasn’t the oddly-sized teeth or the way his eyes always seemed to roll just in the wrong direction. He just… seemed too eager. Pushy. Dante could sense a hint of something malevolent about him.

Just couldn’t put his finger on it.

“We’ll have whatever room you have left,” Dante said. He could’ve kept walking, himself, but Patty was clearly on her last legs. Creep or no creep, she needed somewhere to sleep. “I don’t care if it gets sun or not, we’ll be gone first thing.”

“One adult and one child,” the receptionist droned, flipping a keycard onto the desk.

Hey now, she's a young lady. )

Yes. I’m fine. Let’s talk about the school. In Book Club there were books on…sexy ghosts. Right. Of course. That’s…fine. And in Coping With The Non-Modern World discussed phones. They are useful.

*chittering*

Oh, shut up Leroy.

Nothing from the dorms for yesterday. Sorry again, Porg.

And only one note from the town where Lucifer was playing piano at The Devil’s Nest.

Hey there Fandom. What's up, it's ya girl, Arden Finch, and, for once, I don't think that I'm missing notes, I think yesterday was just a really low-key day as most of the island dealt with...yeah. The weekend seemed like it was a whole lot for most people.

*chittering*

No, I didn't have any guests.

*more chittering*

I don't know, probably because of shut up and mind your own business, how about that? So yeah, School had it's usual classes, with Try Not To Die heading off to Straya - Straya? - for the class, where there were many sheep. This feels like I just read a Mad Lib. Various Beach Things had us build sandcastles, which was very soothing. And Let's Eat went to a West African-inspired restaurant in London. Are y'all going to an actual West African restaurant next week to compare? I think that'd be interesting.

Ilya was at J,GOB yesterday, getting a cupcake for his birthday. Happy belated birthday, Ilya! Everyone, if you see Ilya today, wish him a belated one, okay?

And lastly, at the Clinic, Professor James was subdued but keeping busy.

Yeah, so that's pretty much it yesterday for folks. This is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off, and leaving you with the song See You Again by Wiz Kkalifa, ft. Charlie Puth.

"Let's talk about phones," Yennefer declared, holding up hers. "Your phone is your lifeline. Your phone is how you can call Portalocity to get you out of the hellhole you occupy, whether that be temporarily to restock on chocolate or more permanently because you have come to your senses. Your phone also has a very finite battery and is prone to being damaged by being dropped from a normal height. What is one to do? Firstly, I would advise investing in a military-grade case. It doesn't matter that it's ugly and only comes in black, it matters that it will make your phone survive being thrown through a wall into a swimming pool. Second, turn the phone off when not in use. Only power it on when needed, or perhaps once a week or every few days if you're in regular contact with someone else with a transdimensional working phone. Third, if electricity hasn't been invented in your world, invest in a good solar charger and guard it closely. Are there any questions?"

It was a quiet night at the Devil's Nest. Well, to an extent. The Devil himself was at the piano, playing.

But his focus tonight was on the classical, and not the most dramatic, either. Debussy flowed across the dance floor, only occasionally interrupted by the clinking of his glass.

Sometimes you just had a mood and followed it.

There were clubs in Limbo City that hadn’t been safe to go to back when Dante was younger. Before Mundus’s death, before he got himself so emotionally intertwined with a couple of people that he didn’t want to go out anymore.

They were safer these days. Sure, like so much in his life, they weren’t quite right, but they were close enough. A couple nights there and Dante could tell himself he fit back in his skin, that the weekend hadn’t mattered. That he was doing just fine.

Not that he got to enjoy it for long.

"Genre!" Isabela announced very loudly once everyone had had a chance to settle in with their drinks and pastries and books. "Some people consider it very important."

"It's basically a fancy way of saying different kinds of stories have different kind of arcs and conventions," Aphra explained. "For example, when people talk about romance books, they usually mean stuff that been published over the last few decades, where there'll be misunderstandings and conflict, but everyone ends up happy in the end, but if they're talking about Romance novels, they mean stuff from a century or two back where the conflict possibly ends with everyone very dramatically dead." Important distinction that.

"In any case, this week's selection of books combines the two in the very important genre of Sexy Ghost Books."

Yes, Isabela was capable of reading a room, often she just chose not to.

Sure, it'd been a tough weekend for some people and Kitty didn't know how many people in her class might be dealing with stuff today. But she also had an extremely chill class, so!

"We're making sand castles today," Kitty told them. "Though you don't really need to stick to castles. If you want to make like, a sand turtle or a sand restaurant or something, go for it. All you need to do is add water to shape the sand and you can go from there, but I do have things like buckets and shovels and things if you want some help."

Yes, they were meant for little kids. They were still useful.

Morning, everyone, and hope you all made it through the weekend okay. I'm assuming so since I don't have a lot of notes so the squirrels must not have been cashing in on all of your traumas.

In the dorms, Ilya watching hockey in the second floor common room, but otherwise, trauma in town as people said goodbye to their visitors. There was Dante and Eva, Henry and Bianca, Stark and Zhaan, and Kathy found out Sarah had said some things to Dante. That had to be a fun conversation.

That's all I've got. It'd be a good day for the island to give people teddy bears or something.

It was Ilya's birthday, not that anyone else on this island knew that. It was fine. Ilya was used to his birthday not being a big deal, and while if he'd been back in Moscow he might have gone out clubbing with Sveta, he was more than capable of making his own fun.

Which in this case meant 'buying a cupcake,' since the nightlife on this island was essentially nonexistent. The only question was which flavor to buy. They all looked so good, he might have to get two.

These weekends were difficult for Stark. There was the unreserved joy to start it off and then the devastating goodbye at the end of the weekend. It didn't get easier. He just had practice at it now.

He'd brought coffee as usual but he was very quiet at the clinic. He'd arrived and immediately set himself to tasks that kept him busy. If he was moving enough it helped.

The clinic was open. The crab was still decked out in rainbows. The alien was quiet and trying to stay busy.

Was Hannibal just a little disappointed he hadn't had any guests this weekend? Perhaps. But all the more reason to go out to a good meal today!

"Good afternoon," he greeted his class. (Well, "class".) "We're off to London today, to Ikoyi. It's a restaurant that is West African-inspired, excels at fresh local food, and enjoys a bit of experimentation. And we won't know today's menu until we get there."

Again, he loved a good culinary surprise. "Come along!"
