Police tape was still on the door to the house, letting a Derek know that time was still passing slowly in this version of Beacon Hills. He probably needed to go deal with the insurance companies for the change from 'accidental death' to 'arson/murder' soon, but that could wait.

It took years to get the money the first time, so he wasn't going to hold his breath.

He slashed through the tape with his claws, walking into the foyer of the house to hunt down where Peter was buried, assuming Lydia would follow.

Training Scott to be more aware of his surroundings if they wanted to catch the Alpha would have been easier had he been able to spend more than a day or two at a time working on it. But the kid apparently still needed to go to school and kidnapping was right out of the question.

Derek pulled the car into the long term care facility that had been chosen after the fire. Two kids without any other family to go to couldn't really give the sort of help that had been needed, after all. Laura had said this was a good place.

( Because showing a teenager your comatose uncle was clearly the best plan, Derek. )

Derek had peeled his leather jacket off with some difficulty as only one arm was functioning properly. He was almost certain that this Stiles wouldn't dare try to take the jacket so he let it fall wherever it did. He was most certainly not relaxing slightly because he was in more familiar surroundings with a more familiar person. Not at all. Except for how he was.

( Goddamn Fandom had ruined his instincts. )

With this mystery alpha attacking people, Derek had needed some back up. Or, at the very least, someone who was more versed in detective work than he was. Which meant pretty much anyone but him.
