A Beach South of Tallahassee, Florida - Saturday Afternoon

So, Florida was warm and wonderful. And Derek hated it so much.

But it made for a nice trip around the damn near deserted FSU campus earlier that day, at least. And now there was a trip to the beach. Because they were in Florida. And it was a trip to the beach or a trip to Disney.

And Derek looked terrible in mouse ears. So.

He sat in the sand, looking surly and unapproachable to people. Which was his default expression after 'tragic and emotionally traumatized'.

Well, maybe if he got a tan...

"We can drive back in the morning," Derek replied, laying back on the sand to enjoy the sun. Like a happy cat in a sunbeam. "Maybe stop in Atlanta. Laura had always wanted to go to Atlanta."

"I'd be okay with that," Stiles said, smiling at Derek laying out in the sun. It was either smile or get caught up in how good he looked all stretched out like that. "I haven't really been anywhere so Atlanta would be new."

"We drove from California to New York," Derek muttered. "Ended up stuck in Wisconsin halfway there."

[robinonadderall]

"Sounds like a thrilling destination." Yeah no.

[justlurkinghere]

"Hunters," Derek said like that explained everything.

[robinonadderall]

"Well that sucks," he said. "Boring place and hunters. Well obviously you made it out alive."

It had been decidedly not fun.

"Yeah. That time." HIS MAN PAIN WAS UNENDING.

[robinonadderall]

"Right. Sorry." Always making things awkward, Derek.

IT WAS BETTER THAN SEX TOY CONVERSATIONS.

He just made a vague noise like he was telling Stiles to shut up. "Still not letting you pick where we're having dinner."

That was a lie.

Stiles rolled his eyes. "Waffle House wasn't even that bad."

"It would have been fine if I was allowed to have bacon."

How was that even possible? You're not even the boss of him!

[robinonadderall]

"Dude, you ordered like half the menu you didn't need bacon." Mind your cholesterol!

[justlurkinghere]

"I wouldn't have needed half the menu if I had bacon." Lie.

[robinonadderall]

"Oh my god you are such a liar," Stiles said. "You can survive without bacon."

[justlurkinghere]

"But is it a good life?" he asked dryly.

[robinonadderall]

"Don't be dramatic," he said. "And it's not like I'm permanently banning bacon from your life."

Just when he's around.

He'd abuse that loophole. Don't think he won't.

"Good. Because if you were, I'd cancel the Netflix." He didn't actually know how, though.

Also, wow. How was that a normal, platonic response?

It was totally normal!

If Stiles just had an eensy bit more self-esteem he'd realize that Derek actually listening to him about the bacon thing was a pretty big sign there were some feelings there.

Actually this whole trip was a sign.

"Do you even know how to cancel Netflix?" he asked. "Or to change any of the settings at all?"

"Mike could." SHUT UP.

[robinonadderall]

"Uh huh." Aw, your failure with all things technology was adorable, Derek. "Can I bury you in the sand?"

[justlurkinghere]

"Like you could." That was a surly yes.

[robinonadderall]

"How hard could it be to bury someone in the sand?" he asked.

[justlurkinghere]

"You'd need enough sand to keep me buried."

[robinonadderall]

"Well that'd be easy enough if you stayed still." Because that would happen.

Derek's eyebrows went up at that. Because seriously.
