Denny's - Mainland, Sunday Morning

Upon going to drag Stiles out for his morning violent flail run this morning, it became abundantly clear that something more was needed. Because Beacon Hills was an evil place and damn it, he'd warned the kid about going back there.

Therefore, it was time for a Denny's trip. Where one could repress their trauma via a Grand Slam.

That earned him a frown. "What happened?"

"Officially the police aren't sure yet. She went missing the night of her party and I was the last person to see her alive." Oh, the guilt that came from that. "She was found later tied to a tree. Head bashed in, throat cut and strangled."

Stiles rubbed at his eyes like that was going to get the imagery out of his head somehow. "Two other bodies with the same wounds turned up around a day later."

Derek took a moment to try and think of just what could have done something like that. "Do you think it's something human?"

"I definitely don't think it was a werewolf. No offense, but you guys usually aren't that creative. I do have a theory though," he said. "All the victims having those injuries, it's called a three form death. The concept is related to sacrifices. Human sacrifices."

He braced himself for an onslaught of judgment because he knew how that sounded.

Hey now, Derek was attempting to be supportive here. And non-Jesus figure-y.

Maybe because he didn't have an English teacher love interest around.

"For what?" he asked, only sounding vaguely judgmental.

[robinonadderall]

"Dude, I know what it sounds like but it fits," Stiles said. "It's not just the deaths that were the same, all three victims were virgins."

You probably didn't want to know how he knew that.

"People that like to sacrifice humans always go for virgins." At least in the movies they did.

Excuse Derek while he stared at him for a moment. "You're staying away from Beacon Hills."

"What, why? Because I'm a virgin?" he asked. "Staying away from Beacon Hills isn't an option, I'm going to figure this murder thing out."

"So you can get murdered too?" He was not cool with that, Stiles.

[robinonadderall]

"I'm not going to get murdered." Even he looked like he wasn't sure of that. "Since my virginity is literally a threat on my life now maybe someone will have sex with me? Danny might, he's nice. Oh or Mike! Do you think Mike would have sex with me if I said I might die if he didn't?"

Don't make Derek murder his housemate, Stiles. That would be bad.

"Just. Stay out of that town, you moron."

"I just told you I can't," he said. "Look, it's my fault Heather was alone that night, I'm responsible for what happened. I owe it to her to find who did this. My dad's doing what he can but if it's being done for some supernatural reason he's only getting half the information."

"But he's not the one in danger if they're killing virgins."

[robinonadderall]

"You can't stop me from going back there." He was not afraid to pull the brat card, no.

"Want to bet?" Oh, this would only end in tears. And Stiles going there anyway.

[robinonadderall]

Yes, yes it would.

"I'd love to see you try," Stiles said. "I'm not going to hide here while people back home are dying. I can help."

"What is your problem with people trying to keep you safe?" Derek snapped, causing the waitress to make a u-turn to avoid giving him a refill on his coffee.

Stiles sighed. He had wanted more coffee, goddammit. "I'm not trying to seem ungrateful over the fact you'd rather see me alive than dead. I just can't ignore this. Would you be able to?"

This is what happens when you two argue in public.

Derek huffed because of course he wanted Stiles still alive. And, he had him there about not being able to turn away when he could do something to help. You know, things would be so much easier if he really was the person people thought he was.

"Take Scott with you then." Yeah, like that'll happen when you kick Isaac out, Derek.

"The werewolves have their own problems at the moment, man," Stiles said. "But I'll take Scott when I can. It's not like I want to be killed, you know."

Derek looked up at that, expression sharp for a moment before he pushed down the urge to ask about that. "Ask." He sighed before continuing. "Ask Barton for something to protect yourself."

"If you're talking like a crossbow or something, I'm not sure that's the best idea," he said. "I almost took Scott's eye out with Allison's crossbow once."

"...of course you did." This is why he was being insane, Stiles. This right here. "Mace? Or would you spray yourself?"

"I mean I have before but what are the odds of doing it a third time?" he asked. "I think it would be easier to get someone to have sex with me."

"Mace it is."
