Denny's On the Mainland, Saturday Night

Laura was once again gone. And Derek was totally fine about that. Yeah, totally fine. He was just glaring down at his coffee cup like it offended him on every level possible and would set it on fire with the power of his hatred.

And he was apparently talking to Stiles again.

Well, it had really been more of a kidnapping because the kid had his jeep available to drive them to Denny's while the Camaro was still in Beacon Hills. But, you know, whatever got him a Grand Slam of sadness.

You know, normal 16-year-old's would be spending their Saturday nights at a party or out on a date or studying. Or doing just about anything that wasn't watching an emotionally stunted werewolf trying to deal with his feelings at Denny's.

Stiles so wished he was a normal teenager right about now.

"Can I eat your pancake bites?"

Oh, like you don't enjoy feeling like the emotionally fit one in the group.

"No." He would cut you for those. "Eat your own."

It was a nice change considering he spent all day yesterday moping in his room.

"But I only have like three left!" That clearly wasn't enough. He needed all the pancake bites.

They were talking about pancake bites. It was totally progress.

"And I said no." He was going to horde them. And the little pitcher of syrup too.

"You're a jerk," Stiles said, slumping down into his seat. "I should leave you here."

"Should," Derek shot back, glaring at the pancake bites before very reluctantly shoving one over to Stiles' plate.

Now shut up, Stiles.

Success! Stiles perked up and grabbed the pancake bite. "You're such a softy, Derek Hale."

Yeah shutting up was not going to happen.

"You're sulking and I want my bed back." See, it all made sense. "And my dog."

So that he could sulk with the both of them.

"I wasn't holding your bed hostage," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. "I was looking for you and then I fell asleep."

Derek switched up his glaring to aim it at his now empty plate. Because words and feelings were difficult and he didn't do either of them well.

Much like how he alpha-ed!

"What did she tell you?" SO MANY SHES WERE POSSIBLE HERE.

"I see you haven't gotten any better at using your words over the last month." Maybe you should stick with communicating via texts, Derek. "I assume you're talking about Kate?"

Because, hey, he talked to Laura too. It had been a weird week.

"I could hear what Laura said in the house." Which was possibly why she never said a name.

Ah, right. Stupid werewolves. "Eavesdropping is pretty rude. Just for the record."

Was he avoiding the subject? Maybe.

"No kidding." He was shocked, really. "I guess that explains why she didn't stay on the subject for long."

"House full of werewolves growing up," Derek said dryly. Aw. Awww. He made himself sad.

Which is nothing new. Because have you met Derek?

Great, now he wanted to ask how someone would masturbate in that situation. Which would be highly inappropriate considering what was going on. Contrary to popular belief, Stiles did not aim to make things more awkward than they already are, so he needed to change the subject.

"I told Kate we were dating."

Okay, still a little awkward but less awkward than the masturbation question.

Oh sure, get Derek to look up at you in something pretty close to horror. "Why would you tell her that?"

"'Cause she was getting creepy on me, I thought it'd scare her off!" Stiles said. "Which I was completely wrong about 'cause she got more touchy, if anything."

Derek was just going to continue to stare at him. Because seriously, this was the worst idea since ever. And he clearly could never explain why.

"Dude, I know it was a mistake. I didn't even know it was her at the time, there was a 50/50 chance it was some other creepy lady that looked like her," Stiles said, throwing up his hands. "I would have been a little more prepared if you learned to communicate with people."

"I didn't exactly have time to grab my phone." That worked well enough as a response.

"Like you don't know exactly where to find me if you want to." He didn't have a social life, Derek, there was only so many places he could be! "Anyway, I'm sorry, really, I am. I had no idea it'd make her like...that."

And possibly lead her to more people he---did not care about in the slightest? No thank you!

"She'll go after the other version of you."

Yeah he hadn't really thought about that at the time. "Well she'll be up against the alpha for kidnapping privileges so I'm not too worried about it."
