Like Derek was really going to just trust Scott at his word that he would stay away from the Argent girl. And like he really wanted to spend more time in the burned out hull of his childhood home more than strictly necessary right now. Or go to work at the bar and deal with Taylor Swift some more.
That would be why he had slipped in through the open window in Scott's room--seriously, who leaves a window open when they know a murderous werewolf is out there?--to wait for him. Sitting in a chair. In the dark
Yeah.
So, it was no surprise at all when Scott came rushing into the dark room, reeking of fear and the Alpha. Derek probably should have said something to alert the kid to his presence, but instead he waited until Scott turned a light on.
And jumped at the shock of having Derek in his room. It was the little things in life that made Derek happy, you know. "You seriously need to stop doing that," Scott hissed, breathing heavy to calm down his racing heartbeat.
"So what happened?" Derek asked, not even going to pretend that he didn't know about the alpha approaching Scott. "Did he talk to you?"
"Yeah. We had a nice conversation about the weather," Scott replied, reminding Derek just why his best friend was Stiles. "No, he didn't talk."
"Well, did you get anything off of him? An impression."
Scott gave him an incredulous look for that. "What do you mean?"
Derek sighed, pushing himself up out of the chair. "Remember your other senses are heightened. Communication doesn't have to be spoken. What kind of feeling did you get from him?"
Scott actually took a moment, mouth pursed in concentration before answering, "Anger."
"Focused on you?"
"No, not–not me," Scott replied, still frowning as he thought back on it. "But it was definitely anger. I could feel it. Especially when he drew the spiral."
That made Derek stop short of whatever he'd been waiting to ask next. "Wait, the what? What'd you just say?" he demanded.
"He drew this spiral on the window of my car, in the condensation, you know?" Scott paused, watching him. And something must have shown on Derek's face because he continued, "What? You have this look like you know what it means."
Yeah. He knew what it meant alright. "No, it's–it's nothing," Derek replied, pushing past him quickly.
Scott followed after him, grabbing his arm until he stopped. "Wait–wait–wait–wait a second. You can't do that. You can't ask me to trust you and then just keep things to yourself!"
"Doesn't mean anything," Derek replied, trying not to let anything more show on his face. Because he was soooo good at that.
"You buried your sister under a spiral," Scott said, making Derek curse the fact that the kid was actually pretty quick on the uptake when the Argent girl wasn't involved. "What does it mean?"
Derek took a deep breath, opening the door to Scott's room to leave in a normal fashion rather than through a window. "You don't wanna know."
You really did not want to know, Scott.
