IHoP on the Mainland, Monday Evening

Tomorrow was Stiles' eighteenth birthday, which meant Derek was taking him out to dinner tonight. So that he could spend tomorrow with his dad and Scott.

Aren't you glad Derek was in contact with the Sheriff, Stiles? Aren't you?

Derek put the sensible, highy safety rated car into park and stared at the windshield. "Do you want your gift now or inside?"

"Well you're welcome," he said. "But it's really not that big of a deal. And you were right about the whole thing, it's better to wait."

Derek grinned at that. "Is this the only time I'll hear that phrase?"

"Most likely," he said with a smile of his own. "Patience isn't one of my virtues."

"Really," Derek deadpanned. "You should have warned me. I don't know if this relationship can last with these surprises."

[robinonadderall]

"How dare you get sarcastic with me on my birthday," he said. "That's a birthday foul."

"Your birthday is tomorrow," Derek shot back.

[robinonadderall]

"Yeah but I'm not gonna be around you on the actual day," Stiles said. "So today counts."

"Does that mean you can't be sarcastic at me on my birthday?"

How would Stiles communicate?

[robinonadderall]

"We got in a fight on your last birthday," Stiles said. "Clearly the rules don't apply to me."

[justlurkinghere]

"You are so full of shit."

Their love was so sweet.

[robinonadderall]

"Wow, you just sassed yourself out of some of these pancakes." Because he wasn't a massive werewolf pig who could eat them all in one go.

He could try and end up being sick in the mini van Derek rented, but that was a mood killer.

"I'll steal some of yours."

[robinonadderall]

"You will do no such thing." He'd stab you in the hand with his fork!

[justlurkinghere]

"Then you don't get what I baked you to share with your dad."

Like it would survive the trip to Beacon Hills.

[robinonadderall]

"You baked me and my dad something?" he asked.

[justlurkinghere]

"I had some time this past weekend."

To stress bake. There had been shirtlessness and artful spilling of flour...

He lifted his eyebrows. "Uh huh."

[justlurkinghere]

"I'd like to keep your dad from wanting to shoot me."

[robinonadderall]

"My dad has never wanted to shoot you, Derek," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. "And I'm pretty sure he thinks we've been sleeping together for months."

[justlurkinghere]

Oh god, you were trying to kill him.

"But we haven't."

[robinonadderall]

"He doesn't have werewolf lie hearing powers," he said. "I tried saying we weren't but he doesn't believe me. Of course he doesn't believe what I say most of the time."

Because he'd known Stiles long enough.

"I thought he meant 'be safe' with the werewolf thing."

And now he had to delete his message history with the sheriff.

"Oh my god, Derek," Stiles said, covering his face with his hands. "What the hell have you been saying to him?"

[justlurkinghere]

"That you were doing really great at it," Derek said, shoving his plate away to bury his head in his hands on the table. "Probably because you practiced so much with Scott."

Stiles covered his mouth trying to keep squeaking noises from coming out. Then after a couple moments it all went to hell and he burst out laughing.

Come on, he knew that his dad probably figured out what Derek was talking about pretty quickly.
