IHoP on the Mainland, Monday Evening

Tomorrow was Stiles' eighteenth birthday, which meant Derek was taking him out to dinner tonight. So that he could spend tomorrow with his dad and Scott.

Aren't you glad Derek was in contact with the Sheriff, Stiles? Aren't you?

Derek put the sensible, highy safety rated car into park and stared at the windshield. "Do you want your gift now or inside?"

"My dad has never wanted to shoot you, Derek," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. "And I'm pretty sure he thinks we've been sleeping together for months."

Oh god, you were trying to kill him.

"But we haven't."

[robinonadderall]

"He doesn't have werewolf lie hearing powers," he said. "I tried saying we weren't but he doesn't believe me. Of course he doesn't believe what I say most of the time."

Because he'd known Stiles long enough.

"I thought he meant 'be safe' with the werewolf thing."

And now he had to delete his message history with the sheriff.

"Oh my god, Derek," Stiles said, covering his face with his hands. "What the hell have you been saying to him?"

"That you were doing really great at it," Derek said, shoving his plate away to bury his head in his hands on the table. "Probably because you practiced so much with Scott."

Stiles covered his mouth trying to keep squeaking noises from coming out. Then after a couple moments it all went to hell and he burst out laughing.

Come on, he knew that his dad probably figured out what Derek was talking about pretty quickly.

When had things ever worked out that well for him?

Derek huffed, so put upon by Stiles' amisement. "I hate you."

"Pfft, no you don't." You loved him, Derek! "Come on, the fact that my dad was messing with you means he likes you."

"Good to see where you get it from," Derek muttered.

For that? Ghost Talus would show up and traumatized Stiles. And Derek. But. You know. That was a given.

"Oh man, that totally made my birthday," he said, laughing again. "I can't wait to tell my dad about it."

[justlurkinghere]

"I'm keeping the cake," Derek shot back. "It's a piernik cake. Gingerbread."

He added that just in case his pronunciation wasn't good enough with the practice he'd been putting into it.

[robinonadderall]

"You're making Polish food now?" he asked, trying not to look all googley eyed by that and failing. "You're such a suck up."

He could be googley eyed and sarcastic at the same time.

"I can still eat it all," Derek said. But he was preening a little bit. Barely noticeable.

[robinonadderall]

"You will not," Stiles said. "Not if you want to see bacon again at any point of your life."

Rude, Stiles. So rude.

"Try to share it. "

[robinonadderall]

"I'll let my dad have a reasonable amount." By that he meant a sliver of a slice.

Because he was a cruel son like that.

"You're such a brat," he said fondly. Ugh, this was terrible.

[robinonadderall]

"When you say it like that you make it sound like it makes me adorable."

[justlurkinghere]

"Imagine that."

[robinonadderall]

He smiled. "You're so into me, it's disgusting."

And adorable.

Derek maturely flicked a bit of egg white at him.

"You've caught onto my evil plan."

Oh, Derek. That implied the narrative allowed you any success.

"You don't do a very good job of hiding it," he said with a smile. "And yet we've managed to hide this from most people in town."

"Or they're being polite and pretending not to know."

[justlurkinghere]

"Probably the latter," Derek admitted. "Jack didn't seem surprised."

[robinonadderall]

"And I'm like a thousand percent sure Mike knows." It was a miracle he hadn't walked in on them yet.
