The house Derek woke up this time wasn't as dilapidated or creepy as the last one. Which was a definite plus.

And there was still the puff ball dog! Another plus.

The biggest plus, however? Fully stocked fridge.

So, with the puff ball dog tucked carefully into one of the flannel shirts he'd found upstairs, Derek was digging through the stuff to make himself a sandwich. Sorry about stealing all the lunch meat, Mike.

"Thanks! Here, doggie," Kitty said, holding onto the doorway so she wouldn't fall over.

And of course Puppy Joe wandered over for the attention and love that was his due in life.

"What's your name?"

"Kitty," she said, managing not to topple over as she started petting Puppy Joe in all his fluffiness. "What's yours?"

"Derek."

Puppy Joe, don't fall over. She wasn't going to draw you like one of her French girls.

"Nice to meet ya," Kitty said. "What's your dog's name?"

"It's, uh, Joe." Because adding 'Puppy' made him seem like a little kid.

"He's so cute. I wish I could have a pet," Kitty said, standing up straight again.

"Maybe if you ask enough." Derek was assuming that was how he got this fluff ball.

"I tried asking a lot but my parents say we don't have time for a pet," Kitty sighed. "I'd take care of it and everything! I'm super responsible."

"My sister got a fish when she said that." That poor, poor fish.

"You can't pet a fish," Kitty said, and so obviously fish were subpar animals.

"Not if you want them to stay alive."

CORA.

Kitty made a fish. "Dead fish are even less fun than alive fish. And then you're a bad pet parent."

"The toilet funerals aren't bad, though."

Seriously, guys?

"I've never been to one," Kitty said, tilting her head. "I thought it'd be really sad."

"It's a fish. You eat fish."

[throughaphase]

"But if you take care of it, wouldn't you be sad if it died?" Kitty asked.

"It wasn't mine." He wasn't even allowed a fish. For some reason.

"I'm just saying, if it was," Kitty said. "It's a... hyperthetical."

[justlurkinghere]

"...what?" HE DIDN'T NEED RITALIN. HE WAS A WEREWOLF.

"A hyperthetical," she repeated. "Like it didn't happen, but it could happen."

She knew the word, but explaining it was hard when you were six.

"But it didn't." Excuse him for being very literal.

"That's why it's a hyperthetical," she said, and decided, "It's a good thing you don't have a fish."

"You don't either."

"No, but I don't want one. They don't even do tricks," Kitty pointed out.
