"Again with the ––" He gestured vaguely at Derek, then realized that probably wouldn't help. Sigh. "You know, whatever. Hi, I'm Mike. And you're Derek, and we both live here."

"Here?"

"Yes, here." A pause. "Yeah, I know that's probably weird for you right now."

"...yeah, pretty weird. It's kind of--" A dump. "Small?"

"Small? It's a mansion."

"I have a big family?" HAD, DEREK. HAD.

"Uh, well. It's just us two here. It's –– it's big enough for that."

"Sure," Derek replied, trying to sound encouraging. Oh, Derek.

Well, this was just horribly awkward for Mike right now. He scratched the back of his neck.

"You, um, find breakfast okay?"

Silly question, he already knew he had.

"Uh..." He might have cleared the place out on all those leftovers. "I can pick up stuff to replace it."

"Nah, it's fine," Mike said, shaking his head. Because it was sweet of him to offer and Mike really couldn't take advantage of that. "It was mostly your leftovers anyway, we're good."

"That's probably good. I don't think I have any money." That he could find.

"It's cool, you don't have to worry about it. I need to get groceries anyway today." And there was a point where leftover got boring, anyway. "And, I don't know, maybe order pizza or something for tonight."

Hold on there. "You're staying tonight?"

"Uh, yeah. I mean, unless you think it's gonna be too dangerous?"

Yes, he knew what day it was. He had full moons highlighted in his calendar.

"I'm not dangerous." Ahahahaha, oh you.

Mike shrugged. "Okay. Then... why'd you look so surprised that I'm staying here tonight? It's my house."

"You're human." Derek was so astute.

[newroutines]

Mike didn't even know what to say to that.

"Yeah, but, it's my house."

"Okay." Derek was just going to give you a sideways look, though. "It's supposed to scare people, you know."

Mike just shrugged again. "Well, I've been here for a while."

And hotel rooms cost money he didn't have right now.

You could always stay with Laaaauriiiiieeee.

"Yeah, I can see how that would make it easier." He was talking about the island, not the creepy house, Derek.

"I'm not sure you got what I meant by that's expected under the circumstances." Seeing as Derek probably had no real idea about where he was right now. "So anyway, yeah, I'm intending to stay, and get takeaway for dinner and whatever."
