The house Derek woke up this time wasn't as dilapidated or creepy as the last one. Which was a definite plus.

And there was still the puff ball dog! Another plus.

The biggest plus, however? Fully stocked fridge.

So, with the puff ball dog tucked carefully into one of the flannel shirts he'd found upstairs, Derek was digging through the stuff to make himself a sandwich. Sorry about stealing all the lunch meat, Mike.

"Are you now?" he asked, looking amused. "Professional or just a hobby?"

"I'm gonna go pro when I'm big. I'm gonna be a ballerina and a teacher and a scientist." She paused. "I'm gonna be really busy."

"Yes you are," he agreed. "And you're going to have to spend a lot in tuition money."

"That's why I put everything straight in my piggy bank," Kitty said proudly. "Also I'm gonna get scholarships."

The piggy bank would do nothing for her, but the scholarships really would.

"That's very responsible of you," Stiles said. "Most kids aren't like that at your age. Or my age, now that I think about it."

"I read at a fifth grade level. I have to think ahead," Kitty explained.

"But you're going to make time for fun stuff too, right?" he asked. "Can't be all work and no play."

"Learning and dancing are a lot of fun," Kitty nodded. "And I'm gonna play baseball! Mom says I can when I'm a little older."

"I can get behind baseball. I'm a Mets fan myself," Stiles said. "Too clumsy to actually play though."

Kitty was not a fan of your Mets, Stiles. "Cubs all the way," she said. "Maybe I can play for them someday, too."

"But the Cubs suck." That's just fact, Kitty!

[throughaphase]

"It's a rebuilding year!" she insisted.

[robinonadderall]

"Yeah keep telling yourself that," he said. "Maybe you'll win the World Series once this century."

[throughaphase]

"We will. And I bet they're gonna beat the stupid Mets!"

Oh yeah, she went there.

"Oh children are so silly with their delusions," Stiles said, sighing. "It's sweet."

The roller skates were the only reason he wasn't getting kicked in the shins.

"You're mean and I hope your pitcher hurts his arm!" she said, because insults were difficult when you were little, and turned to stomp off.
