Could Be Creepier Mansion, Thursday Afternoon

Tomorrow was the lunar eclipse and Derek had plans on how to get through it. Plans that did not involve incomprehensible plots or getting beat up by a crazy Druid because 'that was his special ability', thanks.

Plans that meant he was getting ready to bake. It involved a lot of glaring at the ingredients before he started out with the measuring.

[[Open! Specific brownie type NFB. Warnings for cannabis! That's right, I'm calling it that.]]

Jack was trying -- more or less successfully -- to cover his nerves with aggressive good cheer as he got to the mansion. The eclipse and the brownies both sounded fantastic, but he had the niggling fear the eclipse wouldn't work for him.

He smiled anyhow as he got to the door, brandishing a bottle of something poison green. "I come bearing sour apple Pucker," he said. "May I come in?"

"You have the taste of alcohol of a teenage girl," Derek informed him helpfully.

"I have the taste in alcohol of someone buying alcohol for someone who never drinks," Jack said lightly. "Also, a funny drink makes for a better story."

"You could have gone with beer." Derek would not have drunk any.

"But you've probably had beer," Jack argued. "Can I come in?"

Derek gave him a look as though it was never a question that was needed to be asked. "Yeah."

It probably didn't, but Jack was ready to stop arguing about what type of alcohol he should or should not have brought. He stepped past Derek into the house.

"I can smell it," he realized. "How much did you buy?"

"Enough for a batch. Wouldn't keep for the next eclipse."

And he made sure to get the better sort.

"You know, I have no idea how many eclipses there are in a year?" Jack said with a little shrug. "Couldn't tell you when the next one was."

"A lot. But it's only total eclipses," Derek replied, going back to mixing the batter. It mostly smelled like chocolate now. But there was the lingering scent of pot and butter.

Jack breathed in appreciatively, staring at the bowl. He suspected one didn't really want to eat the batter, but it still smelled marvelous.

"It's too bad I won't be able to have one if I change," he said. "Dogs can't eat chocolate."

"Hilarious," Derek replied dryly. "We won't know until then."

"I don't feel as ready to jump out of my skin as I normally do," Jack said hopefully.

"Good sign," Derek said, getting the batter into the rather large pan before putting it in the oven. "Maybe you'll stay human for the three nights."

Long shot, but you never knew.

"Let's not get too optimistic," Jack drawled, and poured some of his rdiculous girly drink into a plastic cup before raising his eyebrows to ask Derek if he wanted any.

"Pass," Derek replied. "I can wait for the eclipse tomorrow."

And then snuggle everyone. Jack, you were going to get snuggled.

"More for me," Jack said --and then gagged on his sip because it tasted like cough syrup. Apple-flavored cough syrup.

Excuse Derek while he laughed at your life choices.

"Too sweet?"

"Yes, you ass," Jack said. "Remind me not to do that again."

"But you seemed so happy with it." Aren't you glad Derek was comfortable enough with you to joke around?

So, so glad. Really. Jack's heart was about to explode from gladness.

"That was when I thought you'd drink it."

[justlurkinghere]

"Middle child." HE KNEW THOSE TRICKS.

[bitten_notshy]

"And this is why being adopted is bad," Jack sighed. "Not nearly enough sibling torment."

[justlurkinghere]

"Builds character." It did no such thing.

[bitten_notshy]

"Why do pleasant things never build character?" Jack wondered aloud.
