A Beach South of Tallahassee, Florida - Saturday Afternoon

So, Florida was warm and wonderful. And Derek hated it so much.

But it made for a nice trip around the damn near deserted FSU campus earlier that day, at least. And now there was a trip to the beach. Because they were in Florida. And it was a trip to the beach or a trip to Disney.

And Derek looked terrible in mouse ears. So.

He sat in the sand, looking surly and unapproachable to people. Which was his default expression after 'tragic and emotionally traumatized'.

"I'm not old enough to have a credit card, dude," he said. "And I am in no way having anything like that delivered to where my dad or Cade or you could find it."

THIS WAS A HORRIBLE CONVERSATION.

"You'll. Have a normal roommate soon." Who Derek would scare off by being creepy and intense at.

"I don't want to expose any roommate of mine to sex toys I may or may not buy." That was just breaking some sort of roommate rule.

"...are you planning to share them?"

"Okay, ew, that's not hygienic." Seriously, Derek, what the hell? "But people stumble across things and that's not how I want a new person to know that I'm into dudes."

"You could always just turn into an eight year old and do that," Derek muttered. Ugh, he hated Fandom so much.

"I knew you were into dudes before that." Because, you know. Of all the gay sex they had during the weekend that shall not be spoken of.

THAT DIDN'T EVEN COUNT.

IT FELT LIKE IT COUNTED.

"No, I've only seen him with girls." Crazy, psychotic girls. "But last time that pollen was in the air it seemed like you didn't have a preference for who you slept with outside of caring about the other person."

Good save. Now he didn't have to speak of the weekend that shall not be spoken of.

"Well. You should care about them." So that you could have your heart ripped out when they killed people.

HEY. STILES WASN'T CRAZY.

...okay, he was getting there.

Stiles nodded, digging his fingers into the sand a little. "Yeah, I agree with that. I don't think I'm the one night stand type of person."

"Might change your mind in college." Oh god, this was an even worse conversation to haaaaaaave.

"I chased after the same girl for almost ten years before giving up, I really don't think I'll change my mind." Because he was a sap.

Derek just sighed. But it wasn't quite in annoyance.

"Florida is out, right?" Because ugh.

"Definitely," he said with a nod. "No way I'd fit in here."

Well, maybe if he got a tan...

"We can drive back in the morning," Derek replied, laying back on the sand to enjoy the sun. Like a happy cat in a sunbeam. "Maybe stop in Atlanta. Laura had always wanted to go to Atlanta."

"I'd be okay with that," Stiles said, smiling at Derek laying out in the sun. It was either smile or get caught up in how good he looked all stretched out like that. "I haven't really been anywhere so Atlanta would be new."

"We drove from California to New York," Derek muttered. "Ended up stuck in Wisconsin halfway there."

"Sounds like a thrilling destination." Yeah no.

"Hunters," Derek said like that explained everything.

[robinonadderall]

"Well that sucks," he said. "Boring place and hunters. Well obviously you made it out alive."

It had been decidedly not fun.

"Yeah. That time." HIS MAN PAIN WAS UNENDING.

"Right. Sorry." Always making things awkward, Derek.

IT WAS BETTER THAN SEX TOY CONVERSATIONS.

He just made a vague noise like he was telling Stiles to shut up. "Still not letting you pick where we're having dinner."

That was a lie.

Stiles rolled his eyes. "Waffle House wasn't even that bad."
