Laura was once again gone. And Derek was totally fine about that. Yeah, totally fine. He was just glaring down at his coffee cup like it offended him on every level possible and would set it on fire with the power of his hatred.

And he was apparently talking to Stiles again.

Well, it had really been more of a kidnapping because the kid had his jeep available to drive them to Denny's while the Camaro was still in Beacon Hills. But, you know, whatever got him a Grand Slam of sadness.

"The great thing about this werewolf stuff is that you can tell that I really believe it's not your fault. Which it's not. Kate's a sick bitch who took advantage of you," Stiles said, having no trouble handling the conversation himself. "And I'm not leaving you either. You're pretty much stuck with me forever."

That loft would be the Wolf Cave! Sheriff Stilinski would get a spotlight with a wolf on it to summon Derek to... make bad choices and punch things. Add in a few whores and its straight out of Frank Miller.

Also, that was a terrifying thought, Stiles. Terrifying. And stop making him have feelings. Sure, they were mostly annoyance and exasperation, but there they were. All feeling-like.

"It's called hyperbole, Derek," Stiles said, withholding the urge to roll his eyes this time. "Obviously I wouldn't hesitate to bring out the wolfsbane if you did something to really hurt me. The point is I think you won't."

Stop ~*~believing~*~ in him, Stiles. It filled him hope for his terrible future. And forced him to give you that 'Scott finally agreed to be in my pack' look. You know the one.

Believing was Stiles' thing, okay? It was part of the whole spark deal!

"So are you gonna eat the pancake bites I so generously offered you or what?"

Derek pushed them back at him with a quiet little huff. You're never getting rid of him now, Stiles. Never. "Order the blueberry ones when the waitress comes back."

Oh god what has he done? At least it's not a dead deer at his door again.

"Well if you insist." Like Stiles was going to turn down more pancake bites. "Don't tell Mike, but I like these better than the pancakes he made. It might be the fact I can eat these with my hands making the difference though."

"What happens at Denny's stays at Denny's."

That was totally the new rule.

"Wise words." And almost kind of a joke. Which was...weird and unsettling. "Scott still thinks Denny's is code for something. I almost want to ask what he means but then I figure it's just best to leave it."

"He thinks the Argents are the nicest family." Derek held little hope for that kid.

"He'll change his mind about that soon enough," Stiles assured him. "Except for Allison, of course. But Allison really is nice."

"She doesn't know what they do." Obviously.

"That...might change a little bit." Yeah, no, it'll change a lot. "A little bit."

"And he's still alive?"

"They love each other, dude." Stiles shrugged like he didn't understand it either. "They've got this whole Romeo and Juliet thing going on. Hopefully without the whole double suicide thing in the end."

"Actually let's scratch that analogy 'cause I'd be Mercutio and I'm really not looking to be killed by one of Allison's family members."

"Does that make me Tybalt?" Look, everyone had to read that freakin' play.

"Tybalt was related to Juliet," Stiles said. "And he's the one that killed Mercutio."

Yeah Stiles was totally going to be a Lit minor in college, don't judge.

Derek just smiled at him for the last part. "And they all ended up dead."

"Yeah, definitely a bad analogy," Stiles decided. "Let's avoid everyone dying."

"Duly noted." Just let Peter in on that plan. Might help.

"You're never going to get Scott to stop obsessing about Allison, just for the record," he said. "It's best to just work around it."

Derek sighed, sitting back in the booth. "Anyone else being bit would be better."

"Yeah, the alpha feels that way too," Stiles said, like that was helpful. "I'm pretty sure Scott agrees."

"Believe me, I know." He was aaaaall alone with his werewolfness. No one he knew wanted to be one.

"Well the good news with the whole Scott thing is that everyone learns a valuable lesson about not biting people who don't want it," Stiles said. "The alpha offered to bite me and let me be when I said no."

Stiles hadn't even told Scott that, but he figured he probably owed Derek a few secrets.
